The sea is alive with fish including species such as;

* Pollack * Turbot * Bass * Grouper * Sea bream * Rays * Conger eels and much more.

Night Fishing

A firm favorite with the locals is fishing for cuttlefish from the local jetties, similar to squid or octopus and not for the squeamish. You will need a sea fishing license which we will obtain for you.  A favoured spot is a 1.5km walk away.

Inland Galicia - wild, secret fishing places

River Fishing in A Coruna

The Galician people are very proud of their vast network of streams and rivers.  The closest rivers to your rental accommodation at Puerto de Compostela are the Tines, Tambre and Sonora.

There are many rules and regulations concerning fishing times, equipment, designated areas where fishing is allowed or not, the type, weight, length and amount of fish you can keep or have to release throughout the rivers of A Coruna.  It is paramount that fishermen wishing to experience the delight of fishing for wild trout and salmon respect these rules and regulations at all times. A full explanation will be given to you upon arrival or before your holiday rental in Puerto de Compostela.

The Galician fishing season for wild trout/salmon runs from 1st May to 30th September.

You need a national river fishing license and a separate day fishing license from a local club who control the capacity of different stretches of water. All licenses will be organised for you in advance by Fishing Holidays Galicia.

A limited amount of permits are available each day for each stretch of water. On certain local festivals the quota may be full. But there are many local waterways and advance planning is advisable if holidaying in peak periods.

Reservoir  Fishing in A Coruna

Many reservoirs in Galicia were built to produce hydro-electric power. You can fish on most of them. The fishing season is from 3rd March to 15th August. A nacional fishing license is needed which Fishing Holidays Galicia will obtain for you.

Galipesca - Vilaguadin reservoir

A recommended day-trip option is to fish the Vilagudin reservoir, north of Santiago de Compostela.  Galipesca is the private fishing club that stocks the reservoir from the local trout farm.  Meaning one thing - lots of fish and an almost guaranteed catch.

Galipesca is family friendly and a pleasant hour's drive from your rental at Puerto de Compostela. The perfect spot for the kids to catch their first large fish - some of them are beasts! The average weight is 4 kg - the sky is the limit!

There is a no return policy at Galipesca - the fish you catch you keep; paying the market price per kg.

You will need to obtain a day's fishing license on arrival at the clubhouse of Galipesca.   Adults 10 euros per day. Children under ten are free. Remember to take your passport or some other form of identification with you.

Day trip with a local skipper

One of northern Spain's most important industries is fishing. The Galician coastal cities of Ferrol, La Coruna, Pontevedra and Vigo are all major fishing ports. On a smaller scale each coastal village has its own harbour catering for smaller vessels.  The same confederation of fishermen that do sport fishing have also organised a day trip with a local captains, guests can join the ship's crew aboard a commercial boat. Weather permitting it's an interesting day out and a unique opportunity to watch the Galician fishermen at sea.
